SEO by specialty

Every specialty has its own search behaviour.

An emergency patient and an implant patient are not on the same journey and should not land on the same page. Below is how the work changes by specialty — the query type, the research window, and what the page has to do.

Highest case value

Dental implants & full-arch

The longest research journey in dentistry and the largest single case value. Patients compare cost, technique, recovery and finance before they call anyone, so the practice that answers those questions is usually the one they call.

Typical searches
dental implants cost full arch restoration [suburb] implants vs dentures all on 4 near me
Research window Weeks to months
Elective

Cosmetic dentistry & veneers

Highly visual and highly comparative. These searches are driven by a decision that has already been made emotionally, so the page has to carry treatment detail, honest cost framing and evidence of clinical work.

Typical searches
porcelain veneers cost composite vs porcelain smile makeover [city] teeth whitening dentist
Research window Weeks
High volume, high value

Orthodontics & Invisalign

Adults researching aligners behave like software buyers: comparison-driven, price-sensitive, review-heavy. Brand queries matter as much as treatment queries, and both need pages.

Typical searches
invisalign cost invisalign vs braces adults clear aligners near me braces for adults [suburb]
Research window Weeks
Foundation

General & family dentistry

The volume base of the practice and the queries the map pack decides. Low value per patient, but these searches drive recall, hygiene and the treatment discovered in the chair.

Typical searches
dentist near me family dentist [suburb] dental check up cost bulk billing dentist
Research window Same day to days
Immediate intent

Emergency dentistry

The fastest-converting searches in dentistry and the least forgiving. If the page does not load quickly, show hours, and put a phone number in reach, the patient calls the next result.

Typical searches
emergency dentist open now toothache relief near me broken tooth [city] weekend dentist
Research window Minutes to hours
Specialist referral

Periodontics

A mix of patient search and referral-adjacent research. Content has to satisfy patients worried about gum disease and reassure referring general dentists at the same time.

Typical searches
gum disease treatment periodontist near me gum graft cost receding gums dentist
Research window Days to weeks
Specialist referral

Oral surgery

Procedure-led and anxiety-led. Patients search the operation by name and then the recovery. Clear procedural content reduces the enquiries that never get made out of fear.

Typical searches
wisdom teeth removal cost oral surgeon [city] tooth extraction recovery sedation dentistry near me
Research window Days
Specialist referral

Prosthodontics

Complex restorative work with a small search volume and a very high case value. Almost nobody builds proper pages for it, which makes the ground unusually cheap to take.

Typical searches
prosthodontist near me full mouth reconstruction dental crowns and bridges denture specialist [city]
Research window Weeks
Scale

Multi-location groups & DSOs

The problem shifts from ranking to architecture: keeping locations from competing with each other, and building a structure that absorbs the next practice without a rebuild each time.

Typical searches
dentist [suburb A] dentist [suburb B] dental group [city] treatment × location combinations
Research window Varies by site
How we prioritise

We start with the treatments that carry the practice.

Search volume is the wrong first filter. A hundred people a month searching for an implant consult is worth more than a thousand searching for a check-up, and the work required is not ten times greater.

So the roadmap is ordered by production value first, competitive gap second, and effort third. On the Dallas engagement that meant implants, orthodontics and sleep apnea before anything else — and those three pages carried the breakout.

Prioritisation order
1Production value per case
2How far behind you currently are
3Real demand in your catchment
4Effort to get there

Which treatment do you want more of?

Tell us and we will review your visibility for it against the practices currently taking those searches.
